![]() ![]() Certain members of the Aiel (who later became Tuatha'an) refused to continue the task entrusted to them by the Aes Sedai, and left in order to search for the peace they had enjoyed during the Age of Legends they call this leaving "searching for the Song". This split took place among second generation traveling Da'shain Aiel. The first split between Aiel occurred during the Breaking of the World. Modern Aiel do not use swords, as their only purpose is to kill. ![]() ![]() They took up a spear as a weapon, as a spear can be used both for killing men as well as for other purposes. Finally, the Modern Aiel ("Dedicated") emerged. Both the Jenn and the Tuatha'an maintained the Way of the Leaf. Next, the Tuatha'an (also known as Traveling People or Tinkers). First, the Jenn Aiel (literally, "True Dedicated" in the Old Tongue, as in, dedicated to the peace). Some time during the Breaking of the World, however, the Da'shain Aiel began disintegrating from one people into three. The Da'shain Aiel are commanded to "keep moving, always moving until they find a place of safety", where none can harm them. For that reason, these Aiel are called by the name "People of the Dragon".Īs the world was being destroyed by male Aes Sedai (who were going mad following the strike at Shayol Ghul by the Dragon), the remaining female Aes Sedai in Paaran Disen bound the Da'shain Aiel to an oath to protect an’greal, sa'angreal, and ter'angreal and other objects from the madness of the male Aes Sedai. Da'shain Aiel served the Aes Sedai (male and female) both in the Age of Legends and during the War of Power in which the leader of the Forces of the Light was Lews Therin Telamon, the Dragon. Modern Aiel are descended from the Da'shain Aiel during the Age of Legends, who were sworn never to do violence (a philosophy known as the Way of the Leaf).
